1.The2010 World Expo in Shanghai recently opened. Do you plan on going to the expo and how do you think it will affect you as a designer?
2010年上海世博会最近开幕。你有计划去看这次展会吗？作为设计师, 你觉得它会给你带来什么样的影响？
Answer: I am very excited I will have the opportunity to attend the World Expo in Shanghai this year. My modern designs are influenced by an obsessive interest I have developed in technology, fashion, and art from traveling the world. The expo will be a great source for me to discover new technology, ideas and concepts from around the world. I am looking forward to the inspiration I am sure I will get from attending the expo. As a designer it will give me fresh ideas, new ways to look at design, and be a platform for me to expand my design vision.
我很高兴今年能有机会去参观世博会。我曾游历过多个国家，从中培养了对工艺、时尚和艺术的热爱，而这份热爱对我的现代设计有很重要的影响。这次世博会对我来说是极好的资源，我可以看到来自各地的新工艺、新想法和新概念。我期待着能从中得到一些有益的启发。作为设计师，它会给我带来一些新鲜的想法，使我以新的角度看待设计，并会扩展我的设计思路。
2.Many people are interested in your natural taste can you tell us how nature influences your designs and how the ongoing fight to protect the environment will effect the furniture industry?
许多人对你自然有机的品味很感兴趣，你可以跟我们说说大自然的因素是如何影响你的设计的吗？还有你认为近日不断上演的环保游行会对家具行业产生什么影响？
Answer: My organic designs are influenced by my love of nature. My love of nature came from growing up in my home country Indonesia. In Indonesia my family had many animals. I preferred to be outside with the animals and enjoyed studying them. My natural influence also comes from taking trips to the Indonesian mountains, jungles, and beaches. If designers begin to use innovation in our design methods, we can play a large part in protecting the environment. We can develop ways of combining functional furniture together and use different types and sources for our materials. Protecting the environment will play a positive role in the evolution of furniture design.
我的有机设计深受我对大自然的热爱所影响。我对大自然的热爱源于我的家乡印度尼西亚。在印度尼西亚我的家人养了许多动物。我喜欢在外面和动物们在一起，并很享受观察他们的乐趣。印尼的山川、丛林和海滩是我常去的地方，这些都促使我在设计当中使用自然因素。如果设计师们开始使用新式设计，我们可以在环境保护方面起到很大的作用。我们可以想出多种方法来把功能家具组合在一起，以节省材料，并在家具中运用不同种类、不同来源的材料。环保将对家具设计行业的变革起到积极的推动作用。
3. You lived in the United States for eleven years;tell us about your journey there? How did you get into the interior deign field? How did you end up in Beijing at OULE?
你在美国生活了11年，你能给我们讲讲你的经历吗？你是如何进入室内设计这一领域的？又是如何最终来到北京为欧乐公司工作的？
Answer: The first few years in the US was dedicated to college, where I received a degree in graphic design. I landed my first design job at a well-known American interior design company, Barbara Barry Incorporated. I had a mentor there that helped me learn the tools to construct three-dimensional detailed designs. He also taught me how to critically think about design to make memorable, timeless, modern furniture. Through him I found that designing furniture was a way for me to express myself, share my life experience, and a way for me to challenge my ideals.
在美国的前几年我在大学里学习，并获得了平面设计。我在美国著名的室内设计公司芭芭拉贝瑞公司获得了份设计工作。在那里我有一个导师，他教会了我如何使用工具做3D设计。他也让我领悟到如何缜密的构思以创造出永恒的令人难忘的设计作品。通过他的教导我意识到家具设计是一个展现自我、分享生活体验的方式，也是使我实现个人理想的途径。
4. Why did you choose to design for Oule? What advantage does working at OULE give you as a designer?
为什么你选择为欧乐公司做设计工作？欧乐公司为你提供了什么优厚的条件？
Answer: I ended up in Beijing because I had visited the city before. I loved the traditional yet modern aspect of Beijing. At the right moment, a friend suggested I come to work for Oule. Oule has given me the opportunity to design as a solo artist and continue to expand my design spectrum.
我先前去过中国的其他城市，最后决定留在北京。我喜欢北京传统的一面和现代的一面。而在恰当的时候，一个朋友向我推荐了欧乐公司，于是我来到了这里。欧乐公司给了我做独立设计的机会，同时也使我有机会拓展自己的设计领域。
5. What do you think of the boog real estate industry in Beijing?
你对北京繁荣的房地产业怎么看？
Answer : I think it is amazing how fast this great city is growing. I believe it will create more opportunity and jobs for many people. It is also good for my field!!! More buildings mean a greater need for furniture. A greater need for furniture will give me more chances to express my self as a designer and allow me to continue to create more timeless, classic pieces.
我觉得北京的发展速度很惊人。我认为繁荣的房地产业会为许多人创造工作机会。对我从事的行业也大有好处。建更多的房子意味着对家具更多的需求，而家具需求的增长会给我更多机会展示我的设计才能，使我能够继续创造出永恒、经典的作品。
6. What artists give you inspiration and how do they transfer to your design ideals?
有哪些设计师曾给你以启发，你又是如何形成自己的设计理念的？
Answer: My favorite artist is the famous American acritect Frank Loyd Wright. Frank Loyd Wright inspires my designs because his work is also influenced by nature and he too has an organic taste. I am most fascinated with him because his goal is to incorporate the exitingnature of a place into the construction of his design. I consider him to be an innovative designer and innovation is part of my design vision.
我最喜欢的设计师是美国的建筑师弗兰克•洛依德•莱特。他在设计方面对我的影响很大，因为他的作品也受自然因素的影响，他也有一个有机的品味。在做项目时，他的目标是把项目实地的自然元素都融入到设计的构架当中去，对此我极为钦佩。我认为他是一个有创新精神的设计师而创新也是我设计思想的一部分。
Barbara Barry was a real life inspiration. She gave me the priceless gift of education and showed me what it means to work hard for what you want. She taught me how to create classic pieces that people would appreciate for generations. She inspires me because through deteration, hard work, and passion, she became a very successful, independent designer. Over time, I hope I can accomplish what she has.
芭芭拉贝瑞在生活方面对我很有启发。她对我的是我的无价之宝，她给我展示了为自己的追求努力工作所意味着的东西。她教会了我如何创造出令人代代相传的经典作品。凭借决心、勤奋和激情，她成为了一个成功的、独立的设计师。我希望多年以后我也能取得她今天的成就。
7. Through your experience and design journey thus far, what is the best advice you can give to other artists beginning their own design journey?
通过你的经历和到目前为止你从事设计工作得到的经验教训，你想给其他刚刚开始自己职业生涯的设计师们的建议是什么？
Answer: My advice is never to think twice when an opportunity for the next step in your career comes around. It may not be the step you expected or wanted, but when it presents itself, take it and run! People are always waiting for a chance to change their life, to excel in life, but sometimes they don’t open their eyes wide enough to see it. The second best advice I can give is to be patient. Patience is the key to doing well, if you are patient, you are persistent and never give up. If we give up to soon, we never give ourselves the chance to be successful. Always remember the reason why you are doing what you are doing. This will help you when it is difficult to be patient and persistent.
我的建议是当你在职业生涯中出现了新的机会时，不要犹豫不决，这个机会可能不是你所期待的或是想要的，但是一旦它出现了，抓住它并利用它！人们总是在等待一个改变生活，使生活更美好的机会，但是他们往往却又会忽略这样的机会。第二个建议是一定要耐心。耐心是成功的关键。如果你有耐心，你就会坚持下去，永不放弃。如果我们放弃太快，我们绝不会成功。要一直记着你从事目前工作的理由，这会在你坚持不下去的时候给你以帮助。
8. What are your upcog design projects? As a designer, where will you be in the next five years?你下一个设计项目是什么？作为设计师，你认为五年之后你会在哪里？
Answer: For the next five years, I plan to continue residing in Beijing with my wife and daughter. I will be at my new home Oule. It is my goal to continue to meet designers and professionals in the Beijing interior design industry. I would like to travel to several countries to develop new ideas and influences for my design vision, so far thats what i have plan...
未来五年我计划仍和我的妻子女儿居住在北京，并仍为欧乐公司工作。我的目标是接触更多北京室内设计行业的设计师和专业人士。我也想去几个国家旅行，为我的设计灵感发掘一些新的想法和特点。目前我的计划就这么多。
